Any anglers use this line for Steelies/Salmon and if so how does it perform? Thanks in advance.

I use mccoy exclusivly on my spinning reels. It is limp with very little memory even in the coldest contitions. I do keep an eye on my line though and re-spool every 6 to 8 trips ( mccoy is reletively inexspensive). I have had no breakoff problems and have landed springers to 25 lbs. with 10lb. test. By the way i use maxima exlusively on my levelwinds.

musta been ten or twelve yrs ago, friend of mine came to visit and (whatta surprise) we had to do some fishin. On the way to the river we stopped to "top off" our tackle and he decided that he had better re-spool. He let the store employee talk him into the McCoy (sumthin about Dave Krieg being involved w/it --or endorsing it?) line. Anyway, the stuff flat out sucked!! Breaking strength was way below what it was rated for and knot strength was lousy too. Maybe he just got a bad batch but it sure ruined the trip for him. Haven't tried it since.
Sincerely, Roger

I like the little spools of McCoy leader you can buy. They fit perfect in the tackle box without coming unraveled.

I tied a bunch of leaders with it at the suggestion of a shop employee. Never again. Low breaking strength and knots did their best to come undone while I was fishing. Never had that happen before or since switching to UG exclusively. I do like Izor as mainline.

you guys are crazy, mcCoy is a very strong line, pulled up a chain cod with 8 lb test with a 20 lb shock leader at the rich passage salmon pens. lifted a 6 lb salmon onto a high pier with the same spool and busted 2 high quality rods this year fishin for chums. used the same spool twice in 99 and 2000 on my beach casting rod and caught alot of fish believe me. line funked out after 6 months, do you know how long lines sit on the shelf before there bought? line and knot strength under the lb strenght on the spool. I see you guys must just jump on the tackle shop band wagon for lines to use. its ok thou, were all diffrent

I use maxima on all my bait casts. for spinning outfits I use Gamakatsu where a high vis line is not a must. I also use Gamakatsu for leader on all my rods. Only going to maxima for leader in high colored water. On all my plug rods I run maxima's high vis with a triple surgens knot to the Gamakatsu leader of about 10 feet both lines are 12lb. When a plug does hang up bad the Gamakatsu line is the one to break but never on the knots including the line to line triple surgens knot. Despite what some people say about using a knot like this from maxima to a Co-polymer line. I have had Great luck with this Gamakatsu line in strengh and a fairly good abrasion resistant line not to mention the small dia. to boot!! I did try maxima's Perfexion line and was not impressed with the knot strengh at all.
